Random Card of the Day #60:
Pentagram of the Ages - 4
Artifact
{4}, {T}: The next time a source of your choice would deal damage to you this turn, prevent that damage.
Initial thoughts:
This card is different. Normally I would be inclined to dismiss this a bad card, but lately I've been seeing a lot more fatties on the field recently, so my opinion has been changed. Swarm-Aggro just isn't cutting it these days with Slagstorm. (At least until Dark Ascension--did you see the new keyword? Talk about power creep.) And it is important to note that you "choose" a source, not "target" a source. It's important.
Everything now is get something that can't be removed, (Geist of Saint Traft) something you don't mind getting Doom Blade'd/Go for the Throat'd, (Wurmcoil Engine/Grave Titan) or something that is doesn't matter how many times it gets removed (Tokens/Moorland Haunt). At least this card could take care of one of those. But, it's just too damn expensive even for the activation cost. I think I might be playing Crown of Empires instead. It still "prevents" the damage from the creature provided they don't have Vedalken Anatomist or Village Bell Ringer.
So I guess the card is good, it's just too costly. It could probably be fixed with an activation cost of {2}. 2/5
